Support good causes through Kickstarter donations

Everyone has causes that resonate with them on a personal level, but not everyone knows what they can do to support those causes. Some of us don’t have the time or the money to make major contributions, but we still want to do something. We want to feel like we’re making a difference.

Here at Burning Brigid Media we have our projects, but those are large scale and often both time and money intensive. Your efforts don’t have to be huge to have a big impact. Other people have worthwhile projects, and you can participate by supporting them in different ways, including Kickstarter donations.

Why donate through Kickstarter?

Many people use Kickstarter for the rewards, to the point of effectively conducting pre-sales, but you can also use it to promote causes you believe in. It doesn’t take much; every dollar helps, and every donation is appreciated. More than the money, a show of concrete support boosts a project-runner’s morale, and convinces them that they’re not shouting into an uncaring void.

From the perspective of the donor, though, you’re investing energy into the change you’d like to create. Maybe in a small way, but again, everything you do to forward the world you want to live in adds up.

Money where my mouth is

These are the projects I’ve donated to recently.

I’m a foodie. I love to cook, and I bake my own bread weekly. The idea of a locally sourced flour ground here in my home city is incredibly appealing, and I support start-ups over large companies. The Baker Miller Flour Company kickstarter “dings” many of my personal issues at once.
Supporting women and non-gender-conforming creators and artists is one of the reasons Burning Brigid was founded. It would be almost impossible for this kickstarter to be more on-target.
Uncanny Magazine is local, supports the arts, and offers generous professional rates.

Ad Infinitum

These are just a few kickstarters that we found worthy of our time, attention, and pocket money. There are hundreds more, with new projects founded every day.  Have you found any that promote the world you want to live in? Feel free to share them in the comments below.
